Yes, you can fish Biogradsko Lake. I fish it from the bank, from 1 May to 1 October, every day from 8:00 to 17:00, for brown trout and lake char, with a daily permit from the national park. I guide Biogradsko Lake as one of the lakes in northern Montenegro, and it is the one I pair with the Tara in a single day. This article gives the dates, the fish, the permit and the park entry, and how the day works. The whole country is in fly fishing in Montenegro: the complete guide.

Can you fish Biogradsko Lake?

You can, with a permit from the park. Biogradsko Lake lies inside Biogradska Gora National Park, near Kolašin, and National Parks of Montenegro issues a daily sport fishing permit for it. The lake is also called Lake Biograd.

Pages about this lake disagree on the dates, the days and the fish, which is why I give you the lake as I fish it, with the date I wrote it down.

When: 1 May to 1 October, 8:00 to 17:00

As I fish it, Biogradsko Lake is open from 1 May to 1 October, every day of the week, from 8:00 to 17:00. Written in October 2026.

There is no lake fishing after 1 October anywhere I guide. The lakes are summer water. The rest of the year, the rivers carry the fishing: in the fly fishing zones of the Tara, the Lim, the Ljuča and the Ćehotina you can fish all year, when the water level allows.

If you want the lake and your dates fall outside 1 May to 1 October, tell me and I will build the day around the Tara instead.

The fish: brown trout and lake char

Two fish live in Biogradsko Lake: brown trout and lake char, which is also called Arctic char.

No river I guide holds char. If you want a char on the fly in Montenegro, it is this lake or Black Lake at Žabljak. That is the reason to add a lake day to a grayling trip.

Every fish is released. I fish with barbless hooks and a landing net, on the lake as on the rivers.

From the bank

Biogradsko Lake is fished from the bank. There are no boats on the national park lakes, so this is a day of casting from the shore, not from a boat.

We work along the bank, and I show you how to cover the water in front of you.

Park permit and entry

The park publishes its fees. On the Biogradska Gora price list, read in October 2026, the daily sport fishing permit for Biogradsko Lake is 20 EUR per person, and park entry is 4 EUR per person per day.

I arrange the park permit, and it is inside the price of your guided day, as every permit is. The full picture of how permits work in Montenegro is in its own article.

I do not fly a drone in a national park. Photos on the day, yes.

The lake and the Tara in one day

This is the day I suggest for the lake. The Tara runs past Kolašin and on to Mojkovac, and one stretch of it lies inside the same national park as the lake. So in one day you can fish the Tara for grayling and brown trout and Biogradsko Lake for brown trout and char.

The park issues the permit for its stretch of the Tara and for the lake; the Tara at Kolašin and at Mojkovac is on the local club’s permit. Whichever stretch we fish, I buy the permit. The Tara is described in its own guide, fly fishing the Tara at Kolašin, the park and Mojkovac.

Getting there from Kolašin

Biogradsko Lake is in Biogradska Gora National Park, near Kolašin. The Tara flows past Kolašin and on to Mojkovac, and the park stretch of the river lies between the two towns, so the lake and the river sit close together.

If you stay in Kolašin or Mojkovac you do not need a car: I collect you there and drive you to the lake and back, and that is in the price. If you are staying further away, on the coast or in Podgorica, or arriving at an airport, the pickup is by arrangement: tell me when you write.

What a day costs

A guided day starts at 190 EUR with permits and lunch inside: see Trips.
