When is the best time to fly fish in Montenegro?

For grayling and brown trout
June to October

These are the best months on the rivers I guide: the Tara, the Lim, the Ljuča and the Ćehotina. In the fly fishing zones you can fish all year, when the water level allows. Catch and release only, with barbless hooks and a landing net. The Tara and the Lim run highest in April and May, with snowmelt and spring rain, and lowest in August and September (World Bank, 2016).

The fish I guide for

Grayling

Grayling live in all the rivers. The biggest are in the Ljuča.

Brown trout

On the rivers brown trout come second to grayling. They live in all the lakes too.

Huchen

Huchen live in the Tara and the Lim, and in Plav Lake. You can fish for them with me, catch and release. In the Ljuča they are rare and hard to catch.

Blatnjača

Blatnjača is the local name for the trout of Plav Lake, and the lake is the only water where it is on my list. You tell it from a brown trout by its black spots and no red dots.

What is known about Blatnjača

Lake char

Lake char, also called Arctic char, live in the two national park lakes: Biogradsko Lake and Black Lake. No river I guide has char.
