Montenegro Fishing

Plan your trip

Permits, travel, gear and booking for a fly fishing trip to Montenegro. I arrange every fishing permit for you.

Fishing permits: I arrange them all

You need a permit to fish the waters I guide. You do not have to get it yourself. I arrange all permits for every day you fish with me, and they are included in the price.

Two of the lakes are inside national parks: Biogradsko Lake in Biogradska Gora National Park, and Black Lake in Durmitor National Park. A day there needs the national park permit. So does the stretch of the Tara inside Biogradska Gora National Park. I take care of those too.

For the Tara, the Lim, the Ljuča, the Ćehotina and Plav Lake I get the permits as well. Tell me in your request which water you want, or leave the choice to me.

Getting here and around

Montenegro has two airports, Podgorica and Tivat. The rivers and lakes I guide are in the north. If you stay in a town by the waters, I collect you there and drive you to the water and back myself; that is in the price. If you are staying elsewhere, on the coast or in Podgorica, or arriving at an airport, the pickup is arranged with me when you write, and it is not part of the price.

When to come

Best months on the rivers
June to October

These are the best months for grayling and brown trout. In the fly fishing zones you can fish all year, when the water level allows.

The lakes are summer water. All of them are fished from 1 May to 1 October. No lake is fished after 1 October.

What to bring

Bring your essential fly fishing gear. What you do not have, you can ask to rent, from €25 a day: rods, a euro nymph kit, waders, boots, polarized glasses and hats. I also rent out modern competition rods and reels. My rental gear is limited, so it is by request only. Lunch is on me.

Tick what you need in the request form. It asks your height and EU shoe size for waders, and your EU shoe size for boots. I also sell flies for every river I guide. If you have never fly fished, see your first day of fly fishing.

I answer you myself, in English, within one day: the dates, the water and the price for your group.

  3. We confirm your dates

When we agree, the dates are yours. I arrange the permits and lunch, and we agree how you get to the water.

Questions and short answers

Do I need to get a fishing permit myself to fish in Montenegro?

Not when you fish with me. I arrange all permits, the national park ones too, and they are included in the price.

What does a guided day cost?

€190 for one angler and €250 for two. Permits and lunch are included, and nothing is added. For three or four anglers, ask me for the group price: each angler pays less. A half day is possible on request.

Is transport included?

Transport on the fishing day is in the price when you are staying in a town by the waters I guide: I collect you there and drive you to the water and back. If you are staying elsewhere, on the coast, in Podgorica or arriving at an airport, the pickup is arranged with me when you write, and it is not part of the price.

How many anglers can come?

Up to four.

Do you speak English?

Yes, fluently. You plan your trip with me directly.

How fast do you reply?

Within one day. I read and answer every request myself.

Can I fly fish in Montenegro all year?

On the rivers, yes. In the fly fishing zones you can fish all year, when the water level allows. The best months are June to October. The lakes are summer water: all three are fished from 1 May to 1 October.

What if I have to cancel?

You pay nothing. There is no cancellation fee. Write to me as early as you can.

Is it catch and release?

Yes, always, with barbless hooks and a landing net.

I am new to fly fishing. Can I come?

Yes. Tell me in your request, and I plan the day for it.

Can I rent gear?

Yes, by request, if you fish with me. From €25 a day. My rental gear is limited, and I confirm what I have for you.

Do you guide spin or bait fishing?

No. I guide fly fishing only.

Can you take photos or drone footage?

Yes, as an addition to a guided day: edited photos and a drone clip for €60 a day for your group. I do not fly the drone in the national parks.

Do you train competition anglers?

Yes. I have competed in fly fishing for more than ten years. The training covers approach, rigging, reading water, choosing a tactic and competition simulations. It is open to teams, and to anglers who have not competed yet.

A guided day is €190 for one angler and €250 for two. Permits and lunch are included. If you stay in a town by the waters, I drive you on the fishing day. Pickup from further away is by arrangement. For three or four anglers, ask me for the group price: each angler pays less.
