Montenegro Fishing

North Montenegro: the towns I fish from

Six towns, the water each one is on, and how long the drive is from the two airports and Podgorica.

All the fishing I guide is in the north of Montenegro. I am not based in one town; I come to where you are staying. But each town sits on its own water, and the town you choose decides what you fish from the door. Montenegro is small: the coast is about two hours from the Tara and the rivers about an hour from each other. Every water is on the map on the Waters page.

The towns and their waters

The main square in Kolašin: a fountain with a dark stone sphere, a clock tower and a wooded hill behind the buildings.

Kolašin

The mountain town on the Tara: drive times from the airports, Biogradsko Lake next door, and a day from here.

Waters
Tara, Biogradsko Lake
The Tara river at Mojkovac seen from the bank: a gravel bar and a riffle, with wooded hills and a few houses behind.

Mojkovac

The downstream town on the Tara, where the river is bigger and the canyon begins. Drive times and a day on the river.

Waters
Tara, Biogradsko Lake
Plav Lake on a still morning, with the town of Plav and the mountains mirrored in the water.

Plav

The lake town under the Prokletije, where the Ljuča comes in and the Lim goes out. Drive times, a day on three waters.

Waters
Lim, Ljuča, Plav Lake
The rock walls of the Komovi above the summer pasture at Štavna, with wooden huts below and walkers crossing dry grass.

Andrijevica

The smallest Lim town, under the Komovi, on the middle stretch of the river. Drive times and a day on the Lim.

Waters
Lim
The Lim river leaving Plav Lake at Plav: wide turquoise water between willows, with low mountains behind.

Berane

The largest town on the upper Lim, with the river through the middle of it. Drive times and huchen mornings.

Waters
Lim
Black Lake with Durmitor’s peaks and spruce forest mirrored in still water.

Žabljak

The highest town in the Balkans, at the gate of Durmitor. Drive times, the national park, and a day on Black Lake.

Getting to the north

Podgorica Airport is the inland airport and the nearer to every town below; from Tivat every drive goes through Podgorica or over the mountains above Kotor. The motorway from Podgorica to Mateševo, near Kolašin, opened in 2022. The Belgrade–Bar railway stops at Kolašin and Mojkovac.

OSRM route planner on OpenStreetMap data, read 13 October 2026, rounded; Plav by the road through Andrijevica inside Montenegro. Mountain roads and summer traffic to the coast change them.

If you stay in one of these towns, I drive you to the water on the fishing day and that is in the price. Pickup from Podgorica, an airport or the coast is by arrangement. The Ćehotina, near Pljevlja, has no town page yet: see the Ćehotina page. Seasons are on Fish and seasons, the day itself on Plan your trip.
